World Tiramisu Day

Today we celebrate an Italian classic pudding. In fact there is a festival to celebrate tiramisu leading up to world tiramisu day (dates change each year depending on area of celebration)

The history of how the recipe for tiramisu is an interesting one and apparently causes controversy in parts of Italy according to Iitaly.org.

Tiramisu consists of few ingredients, lady fingers (?), mascarpone, espresso and cocoa powder and made in layers. The recipe was created by chef Mario Cosolo between 1940 and 1950 in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy for his restaurant however the dessert was made popular in a different part of Italy, Veneto.

There are variations of tiramisu that can be made with people adding masala wine with the coffee or changing the flavours completely. I have made a lemon tiramisu which is very zingy and moorish. I have also tasted blood orange tiramisu on a trip before which is delicious.
